when i lived in scotland, I belonged to a group called sccam: scottish cartoonists and comic artists members, co-created by tommy sommerville. once a month we’d meet in the basement of the blackfriars pub in glasgow’s merchant city. i was fairly isolated at that time, moreso when i lived on the isle of bute than in glasgow: thrice pregnant, two births, raising my babies and my cartoons  from home. so coming into town once a month and drinking with my scottish brethren was !suffering sappho!

as i recall, lorna miller was only one other woman cartoonist in the group
